EXPLORING STILLNESS:<\/strong>
\nA CONVERSATION AND PERFORMANCE WITH JESU\u0301S CARMONA, JOAQUI\u0301N DE LUZ, AND DAVID NEUMANN
\nThree extraordinary artists from di erent creative worlds will share the results of a ve-day artistic exploration of stillness as a choreographic concept and expressive force in dance. Dancer and actor David Neumann, artistic director of Advanced Beginner Group and three-time winner of the Bessie Award; New York City Ballet principal dancer Joaqui\u0301n de Luz, winner of the 2016 Spanish National Dance Award; and amenco bailaor Jesu\u0301s Carmona, former rst dancer of Ballet Nacional de Espan\u0303a, who presents his own show at the Flamenco Festival this year, join forces in this City Center residency project, where cross-disciplinary investigation is at the heart of the process of generating ideas.

WEAPONIZING FLAMENCO: THE BODY AS AGENT FOR SOCIAL CHANGE<\/strong>
\nContemporary amenco artists are questioning stereotypes that tie amenco to the past and are seeking an interdisciplinary dialogue with artists and cultural workers of other genres. Politics have entered the expressive palette of many young amenco artists, including in uential guitarist Juan Jose\u0301 Suarez \u201cPaquete\u201d and stunning vocalist Naike Ponce, whose new album is a lyric elegy to women. Please join these artists in a conversation with a panel of brilliant New York-based dance artists and scholars, including dancer-makers Margueritte Hemmings and Arielle Rosales, and seminal tap historian Constance Valis Hill, about making work attentive to the roar of battle and the stories of love and community that shake and wake audiences to envision a future of di erent possibilities. This round table, curated and moderated by K. Meira Goldberg and the Foundation for Iberian Music, will explore some of the intricacies of these issues. Admission free, register here<\/a>.

\nFlamenco is cultivated in musical legacies across generations. Join in a conversation with two
\nscions of a legendary musical lineage who are also Grammy-nominated musical innovators: the renowned Pepe Habichuela, patriarch of the Habichuela family of guitarists from Granada, Spain, and his son Josemi Carmona, of Ketama and Barberi\u0301a del Sur, along with Javier Colina, known for fusing musical languages by introducing the double bass to amenco. The artists will speak with K. Meira Goldberg, scholar-in-residence at the Foundation for Iberian Music. Admission free, register here<\/a>.
