Flamenco Festival London 2023 Kicks Off
On Wednesday, July 5, the 18th edition of Flamenco Festival London begins with an impressive cast of flamenco guitarists, as well as stars of flamenco dance, and promising new talents.
Flamenco Festival London has become a reference in the cultural agenda of the British capital. This year’s 18th edition presents a program with the most prominent figures of contemporary flamenco, internationally acclaimed masters, and the new generations of this universal art.
On the opening day of Flamenco Festival London, the bailaora Sara Baras will be the absolute protagonist with her show 'Alma' opening the program, followed by 4 more performances at Sadler's Wells Theatre. Furthermore, at the conclusion of the first performance of this show, the Cádiz-born artist will receive the prestigious 2019 Olivier Dance Award, which recognizes her piece 'Sombras' - also programmed within the framework of Flamenco Festival - as the Best Dance Show that passed through London stages that year.
A major distinction that, due to the recent Covid pandemic, the artist was unable to collect at the time. Now, in her reunion with the London public, the award will be presented to her in person by Sir Alistair Spalding, artistic director and CEO of Sadler's Wells Theatre, and Hannah Essex, co-CEO of SOLT (The Society of London Theatre).
With this spectacular start, Flamenco Festival takes to the London stages. From July 5 to 15, the British capital will once again host a confluence of key contemporary flamenco artists, highlighting the constant progress and evolution of arte jondo in its 11-day program. 17 internationally recognized companies integrated by more than 122 Spanish artists will participate in the festival, offering a total of 22 performances in various venues of the British capital, with Sadler's Wells Theater -a reference theater for dance in Europe-, being the epicenter of the festival.
Moreover, this year the festival will have two extensions with flamenco night events programmed at the Instituto Cervantes headquarters in the cities of Manchester and Leeds.
It is expected that almost 20,000 people will attend Flamenco Festival London 2023, an event that has become an essential and unmissable date in the London cultural calendar.
